SHENZHEN, China – 27 August 2026 – At IOTE 2026, ICLEGEND MICRO formally unveiled its third-generation mmWave sensor SoC, the ICL1240, alongside a 2T4R point-cloud detection reference design and 3T8R cascading evaluation boards. The launch marks the company's strategic evolution from "presence detection" to "spatial imaging" capabilities. Over the past year, the Xen series and ONELAB DEV series have matured from exploratory ecosystem building to production-validated deployment, empowering developers to leverage advanced mmWave sensors and define application-specific sensing solutions on an open platform.

The Next Frontier: What Does the System Actually "See"?

Conventional mmWave sensing addresses a binary question: is someone present or not? As application scenarios expand from smart lighting and appliance control to smart cockpits, health monitoring, fall detection, and people tracking, the requirements converge on a common demand: the system must not only detect presence but also determine precise location, motion state, and spatial contour.

mmWave perception is transitioning from "presence detection" to "spatial understanding." Supporting this transition demands systematic upgrades in channel count, angular resolution, point-cloud quality, and processing capability.

ICL1240: A New-Generation 2T4R SoC Bringing High-Resolution Sensing to Production-Ready Deployment

At IOTE 2026, ICLEGEND MICRO officially launched the ICL1240, its new-generation mmWave sensor SoC. Featuring a 2T4R transceiver architecture, the device delivers significant improvements in angular resolution and point-cloud density over previous-generation products, providing a single-chip implementation path for fine-grained spatial sensing applications.

The company simultaneously demonstrated point-cloud detection results using the EVB1240, the 2T4R evaluation board based on the ICL1240, alongside the 3T8R cascading evaluation boards EVB1380 and EVB1381 for high-end applications. The cascading architecture extends channel count through multi-chip coordination, enabling higher angular resolution and extended detection range for complex environmental modelling and multi-target classification.

Dr. Xuhong Tao, CEO of ICLEGEND MICRO, stated: "Our technology roadmap—from 1T1R to 2T4R and onward to cascadable multi-transmit, multi-receive architectures—has always centred on a single objective: elevating mmWave radar from answering 'is anyone there?' to describing 'where are they and what are they doing?' This signifies that spectrum-compliant high-resolution mmWave perception is no longer a technological impossibility but an engineering solution capable of mass-market scaling. The ICL1240 represents a pivotal step in our strategy to bring high-resolution mmWave perception to widespread commercial adoption."

One-Year Retrospective: From Ecosystem Exploration to Production-Verified Closed Loop

Since IOTE 2025, ICLEGEND MICRO has achieved critical milestones across both product and development ecosystem dimensions.

On the product front, the Xen series has matured into a comprehensive portfolio covering human presence detection, gesture recognition, long-range coverage, and narrow-edge adaptation across multiple scenarios. All reference designs are production-verified and ready for direct integration into end products.

On the development front, the ONELAB DEV series offers a range of development boards, including 2T2R and 2T4R options, complemented by a complete suite of host software and automated parameter generation tools. The platform's core value proposition is clear: developers can bypass hardware reliability validation and foundational design efforts, focusing directly on proprietary algorithm development and functional verification on proven hardware platforms. Over the past year, the platform has enabled numerous developers to progress from concept to hardware validation within hours to days.

The value of this closed loop is that developers now possess true end-to-end control from concept to production. With a selection of development boards and tools, developers can concentrate on algorithmic innovation and feature customisation—unconstrained by hardware design complexities or closed algorithm implementations.

A Scalable Radar-Sensing Foundation for Next-Generation Intelligent Applications

From smart homes to industrial security, from smart offices to healthcare monitoring, high-resolution mmWave perception is increasingly becoming the foundational sensing layer for intelligent systems. The ICL1240 and its associated reference solutions provide a critical engineering precondition: production-ready, high-resolution radar sensing capability within controllable system cost and development cycle.

The ICL1240 SoC and EVB1240 evaluation board are now available for retail purchase on the ICLEGEND MICRO official online store, open to customers worldwide. Developers can directly purchase evaluation boards for solution validation, or contact the sales team for datasheets, hardware design guides, and technical support.
